Tao Haiku - Verse 2

Tao is like echo

and shadow. Formless and void,

it cannot be grasped.

 Commentary

Tao is without form. Tao has no boundaries. Trying to touch the Tao is as futile as grasping at the reflection of a full moon shining in a still lake at midnight.

Lao Tzu wrote: "The Tao is forever undefined."  If the Tao had a size, a shape, a limit, or a horizon, it would not be the Tao.

Seekers on the path have a destination, an end to their Xiu Lian purification journey.

Tao has no destination, no beginning, and no end.

Trying to describe the indescribable, trying to know the unknowable is without reward.

Struggling to grasp the Tao, the seeker gains frustration. Releasing all attachments, the the sage gains freedom.

Pursuing futile tasks is not always futile if Heaven laughs.
